Food Processing Training Package- Continuous Improvement Projects

At the start of the Food Processing Training Package Review it was decided that some related development activities were needed. As well, it was decided that the review of the wine and food safety auditing qualifications needed to be managed as separate projects with their own timetable.

To avoid confusion these projects have all been listed as Continuous Improvement Projects. This means that the current Food Processing Training Package Continuous Improvement projects are:

  • Review of the Wine qualifications
  • Review of the Food Safety units and the Food Safety Auditing qualifications and units
  • Development of Certificate IV and Diploma Food Science and Technology qualifications
  • Development of a Certificate IV in Advanced Baking
  • Development of new units of competency for cheese making
  • Development of  a Certificate IV in Flour Milling
  • Development of units of competency in malting and brewing

Further information on the above projects is given below:

Wine Qualifications Review

The review of the current Food Processing Training Package Wine qualifications is being undertaken as a distinct process from the review of other FDF qualifications.

Two drafts of reviewed qualifications and units of competency have been released for comment.  The comment period on the second draft has closed and the comments are currently being analysed for consideration by AgriFood Skills Australia and the Industry Standing Committee.

Copies of either a new validation draft or endorsement draft qualifications will be posted on this website by end May/early June 2010.  Further information can be obtained from the consultants (contact details above).

Review of the Food Safety and Food Safety Auditing qualifications

The Food Safety units and the Food Safety Auditing qualifications and related units are being reviewed separately from other qualifications and units in the Food Processing Training Package.

The Food Safety Auditing qualifications are nearing completion.  The last round of consultation resulted in a number of suggestions for changes that AgriFood Skills Australia and the consultants are making available for validation.  The qualifications and the specialist units, as well as a discussion paper and feedback form can be accessed by clicking HERE.

Further information can be obtained from Richard Jenkins or Michael Williams, whose details are below.  Comments on the final draft are required by 6 August 2010

Food Science and Technology

Final versions of the the Certificate IV and Diploma qualifications in Food Science and Technology are currently being prepared. The relevant documents will be available to view here once finalised.

Development of new units of competency for cheese making

The coverage of cheese making in the Food Training Package has been reviewed and a number of new units of competency have been recommended. Second drafts of these units have now been released along with a discussion paper. These can be accessed HERE.  Comments on the second drafts close on 11 June 2010.

Development of  a Certificate IV in Flour Milling

Development of units of competency in malting and brewing

The above two projects have been delayed due to the finalisation of the main review taking longer than expected. With the main review now concluded - apart from the quality, editing and equity reviews and the sending of the formal submission - work on these projects will now be a priority. Further information on both projects can be obtained from Richard Jenkins (contact details above).
